Stereographic Projection

So, I'm on this new HDR photography kick which I'll get to in a bit. In the process of exploring this HDR world I found this technique called stereographic projection. Well I like it. Just my first attempt but now I can take images specifically for the technique and you will join me because it's awesome. I'm going to attach the picture that inspired me even though it makes me look bad!
Here's my fist attempt with a picture I took of Chicago. It was the only pic I could find that sorta worked but it's low res because I stole it off of my facebook page.
This is the desired end result. This was posted by Berliner1017 on Flickr and its hawt. This also looks a lot better because it was derived from a 32bit HDR file (which is how I found it)
